In the 90’s many retailers began to produce their own private label clothing brands, sometimes replacing (knocking off) quality designer product with their own privately produced product. I witnessed this very thing happen to a friend of mine. He and his wife had a successful $15 million clothing company located in Seattle, WA. The company had an extremely loyal following, sometimes selling $100,000 worth of clothing at a weekend warehouse sale. Between economic changes and retailers moving to their own product, the company evaporated.
I can’t say for certain if the same thing happened to Carol Anderson, but I bet the stories are similar, with one major exception. Carol Anderson is still in business. In 2001, Carol Anderson left the traditional clothing industry and began selling her product directly to the folks that wear it and love it via a direct selling/MLM model.
Carol Anderson has been a leading clothing designer for over 28 years, making her first sale to Nordtrom’s in 1977. Now Carol Anderson sells her product exclusively in a relaxed home environment with independent CAbi Clothing (Carol Anderson by invitation) consultants serving as party hosts and sales representatives.

I went to a home party and was extremely embarrassed by the hostess. While some people were looking at the clothes before the party, she told me that I had to wait. Then, I am a size 12 and there were NO 12s to try on (not to mention 14 or 16s) I am a professional women with the funds to buy clothes….I left with nothing. Terrible experience!!
Lynn on November 1st, 2005 at 3:44 pm
Kathleen’s experience was not typical of a CAbi clothing show and I would encourage her to give it another try. The clothing is designer quality at Banana Republic prices and is usually a joy to shop. You will not be disappointed!
Tina on November 1st, 2005 at 4:59 pm
I would have to agree with Lynn regarding Kathleen’s experience. I a typical size 14/16 in the stores (sometimes even a 16 doesn’t work) and was very reluctant to buy clothes from the same rack as the size 0 sitting next to me at the party. Never fear – CAbi came through for me – not only does the cut work just fine for me – I can wear it in a 12 or 14 – no problem. Kathleen – give it another chance, you will love it!

Home party concepts are all the rage right now with some of the most successful being purse and jewelry partys given by independent consultants. It would be great if CAbi let their consultants include these high-profit areas. But they limit it to only “their” merchandise.

I recently attended a CAbi party which was really fun. The clothes were great quality and fit so I was happy to spend the money. However, I was extremely disappointed when I got a call the next day from the consultant letting me know that the items I wanted to purchase were no longer available. I am not sure I will bother attending another party, but rather purchase items online.
Kelli Conway on January 11th, 2006 at 1:09 pm
Please send me some information on how I can order Cabi Clothing wothout having to go to a home party. Is there a website where I can view the clothing?
Please advise. Thank you.
Lauri M. Ploch on January 14th, 2006 at 11:19 am
In answer to Kelli, she can go to http://www.cabionline.com to view the line and use the link to find a consultant and then order w/o attending a show, although trying the clothing on helps to avoid returns for fit issues. She can ask for a private appt with a consultant. I am in my 2nd season as a CAbi consultant and LOVE the clothing and have loved the experience and am always happy to help someone individually.
Sarah Brookner on January 22nd, 2006 at 12:52 pm
I have been selling CAbi clothing for two years now. I had long been curious about direct sales and liked the idea of having my own business. Until CAbi came along, I never found a product that I could feel passionate about. CAbi clothes are of wonderful quality, incredible fabrics and comfortable fit. Plus, I continue to be impressed with the integrity of the company’s home office and founders. If you haven’t tried shopping for clothes through a CAbi home trunk show, I encourage you to try. We are trained to provide excellent service, which seems to be a lost art in the world of retail

I attended my first Cabi party last night. I am a size 16-18. I went into the party thinking there wasn’t going to be a thing that would fit me. I was wrong. The skirts, jackets, and tops all fit great. I love Cabi. It was a great and fun shopping experience. I loved it so much I am going to sign up as a consultant. I know a good thing when I see it!
Alicia on March 1st, 2006 at 11:38 pm
I too attended my first Cabi party last night after much debate. I was reluctant to attend because of the prices. I order quite frequently online through other retailers and Cabi prices seemed high so I was curious to see the quality. The clothing line is nice but I feel I could find similar items in a deparment store and probably on sale. I did place an order and I’m anxious to see if I get what I paid for.

Hi ladies – I am very interested in becoming a CABi consultant but have not been able to get through to anyone at the HQ. For some reason, no one returns my calls. Does anyone know a consultant in the Norfolk, VA area? Thanks.

Alexe, I am a CAbi consultant…for 4 seasons…and will be glad to answer your questions about the company and becoming a stylist/consultant…CAbi is the best company I have ever worked for !!!

Alexe, if you are still interested in becoming a CAbi consultant you would go online by entering a consultants name then .cabionline.com … I apologize that you have had trouble getting assistance.

Jane – thanks for responding. If you can send me your email, that would be great. I’d be very interested in pursuing an apprenticeship for a season b/f joining full time. Is that possible? Thanks, and look forward to finding out more information.

I purchsed a pair of $89.00 jeans in September. In November, the zipper broke. The girl I bought the jeans from said they aren’t covered under any guarentees! I wore them maybe 5 or 6 times! That’s about $15.00 a day! Beware of expensive clothing!
janehoagland on May 2nd, 2006 at 4:39 pm
Carla, haven’t heard about any problems with the zippers in the jeans. I own several pairs of them.
Corky on May 13th, 2006 at 6:50 pm
Went to a CAbi party and was very disappointed that there were no plus size clothes… I needed clothes in the size 20-22 range… In this day and age of ease with finding plus sizes, I was shocked that the sizes only went to a 16 or XL. I think you are losing a very lucrative market of plus size women who have money to spend…..

Shame on all of you Reps for using this site to pick-up team members. This could lose you your position, in addition to which could be a dangerous proposition. You KNOW that CAbi is about building the relationship on a personal level, If you love your job with CAbi as I do, you wouldn’t take the chance. Helping someone yes or setting the record straight, yes.
Stacy, if you contact your consultant she will look for the items for you.

At a Cabi party last spring, I purchased a Cabi denim jacket with fancy gold rhinestone type buttons – no extra buttons came with the jacket and one fell off. Is there any way to get an extra button or do you know who I can contact? Otherwise, I have to replace ALL the buttons.
Please advise. I appreciate any info you can give me. Thanks!

I am a petite 4-6 so many “regular sized” items don’t fit through the upper chest to shoulder area and other lengths. Most of my friends are either like me or are plus and plus-plus sizes. Are there any direct sales companies like CAbi who market to and can accomodate these types of “shapes?” I’d like to host a party, but who could I invite?
Jane on February 9th, 2007 at 10:55 am

I just bought a 2007 fall sweater, wore it once and it’s all pilled along the side and lower arms. There is NO ONE to help with product quality issues. The consultant hasn’t returned any calls or e-mails. Is there someone else to contact regarding product quality? I love the style but the service is missing!

Is there anyone else that can help with a product quality issue? The skirt I ordered with it is great. I really like the clothes but the service definitely needs to be improved. Even online catalogers have better service than this!

I would recomend CAbi Partys, however, the sizes do not “true”. this is a GOOD thing for largere size folks tho, in my experience the sizes run about 2 sizes larger than marked. For Example I; am a size 6 and CAbi size 2 pants fit. My skinny friend usually wears a 2 and she just won’t get CAbi pants anymore because she ordered a size 0 and still had to have them tailored in.
