Marketing is an umbrella. Underneath that umbrella are all the business activities that bring a prospective customer through the steps of attention, interest desire and action. These are the orderly steps of a sale – and that formula – AIDA – has been around for decades. Those steps can include things like:
Advertising
TV, radio, print, internet, etc.
Selling
Public relations
Internet marketing strategies
Distribution
Market research
Product development
… and moreThese business activities – especially the ones at the top part of this short (and incomplete) list have the effect of filtering out those people who are not right for a specific product or service and filtering IN those people who ARE right for that same product or service.
Companies in Network Marketing and Direct Selling choose to forego the business activities at the top of the list and instead choose to put in place a very different kind of filtering mechanism – a human filter: you. The distributor. Whether the company you work with calls you a distributor, a consultant, an executive or something else – it’s the same thing. And whether the company says that you are selling or sharing – it still doesn’t matter – you are a human filter. Weeding out those who aren’t right and filtering in those people who are right.
