I just came across this blog and had to comment! We'll be celebrating our two-year anniversary next month, and far from being a "flop," we had the biggest launch in direct-sales history and are one of the fastest growing. Our products are fabulous! They are very high quality, like you would expect from a high-end store like Crate & Barrel or Williams-Sonoma, but for a lot less money. In fact, we have one of the lowest return rates in the industry -- less than 1%.

I love and buy from Pampered Chef (and other direct sales companies) because I like their products, too, and I prefer to support other entrepreneurs like myself whenever possible. We have some crossover of products with Pampered Chef, but they have a lot of things that we don't sell. There's room in the business for all of us.

And, if I think another company makes a product that is better than ours or would suit my customer's needs better, I let them know. I want them to be completely happy with their purchase and be a lifelong customer.

Regarding the pricing on our pizza cutter and peeler, I agree with Elizabeth's comments. I have both and sell a ton. Yes, you could get these items cheaper elsewhere, but they are absolutely the best I've ever used. The pizza cutter is heavier than most others I've owned or tried, which makes it easier to cut through my pan of brownies or bar cookies with ease. And men love it because it feels like a manly tool!

I just want to share a little potato peeler story: One of my first hosts when we launched way back in 2006 got a peeler as part of her free host items. Her 3rd grader came up to me after school one day and said, "Mrs. Woerle, remember that peeler my mom got at her show? She LOVES it! It's her favorite thing! She uses it ALLLLLLLL the time! And we love that we get mashed potatoes a LOT more often!"

Oh...and her mom bought a bunch more as gifts that next December.

As for the person who commented the party she went to, the consultant was new. Back then, we all were! Some of us got our kits and catalogs just a day or two before our first party, leaving very little time to "know' our products. She was probably so excited about the business that she overdid sharing the business opportunity with others. However, I'd rather go to a party with an over excited, new consultant than a burnt-out or overly detailed one.

If you haven't seen the product line, or haven't seen it since we launched, take a new look. This is the only direct-sales company I've seen that actually lowered it's prices in the next couple of catalogs! And I love each catalog more than the last.
in response to Taste of Home Entertaining Quality and Prices, May 16, 2006 .....these people are so off base, if you haven't tried it, don't knock it! I have the peeler and the pizza cutter, yes, they were expensive but they are the best quality items out there. I support Pampered Chef and Southern Living, Tastefully Simple, Creative Memories, Taste of Home , etc.....but by far the quality of Taste of Home is the best, especially if you love to cook like I do. I have bought the peeler as gifts and everyone loves them and buys them as gifts also - they are the "cadillac" of peelers.
