I first came across Herbalife in a cafe a few years ago when I saw a guy wearing a badge saying: “Feel Great Now - Ask Me How!”
I made the mistake of asking him and received a 5-minute monologue about how his life had been a mess; he’d been addicted to alcohol, his wife had left him, his life was going nowhere and so on.
But then he’d discovered Herbalife and, not only had their health products changed his life, as a Herbalife distributor he’d finally found courage to be a success. As he spoke there was a vacuous quality to his speech that made me think he’d rehearsed it at home in front of the mirror.
As we talked I realized that he attributed every positive thing that had happened since in his life to Herbalife and their health supplements — he had become a living advertisement for the company he represented. He could only make money, however, if he could make you believe that Herbalife could change your life and, even better, if you could persuade other people, too.

Ty,
You may be cynical, but many people have been able to turn their lives around with Herbalife - it is not just a diet, but an all round approach to better health.

Very cynical approach indeed… if Herbalife is anything illigal - it would not earn incredible respect by being quoted on NYSE and have the name of Nobel Prize Winner and other world wide respected doctors behind it’sproducts. No major sports event would also want to have anything to do with Herbalife, but we do sponsor major tennis, volleyball, triathlon, etc, championships around the world and what about the latest LA Galaxy and David Beckham being behind the products and taking herbalife not just as a sponsor but actually as a nutritional advisor? $3.5 billion turnover and more is impossible to make on 1.5 million registered distributors, but by selling these incredible products to the public - about 40+ million of them. For people who fail - it is about people (people who join and have no business mentality and people who sponsor who might have con on their mind - but that is unsustainable, so, those would fail and be weeded out on the end anyway). It is never about the company…. Hell, I feel better now.
