Pleasanton-based Shaklee Corp. vowed Thursday to offset 100 percent of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2009 as part of an ongoing commitment to green operations by the marketer of nutrition, health care and household cleaning products.

“We want to demonstrate that businesses can be both profitable and do the right thing, and we hope other companies will follow our example,” said Roger Barnett, Shaklee’s chairman and chief executive.

As part of the commitment for a 100 percent offset by the end of 2009, Shaklee was named an official climate leader by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
