Work At Home Husband and Wife

Barry and Denise Martin work from their two-story home in southwest Springfield.

Each morning, the Martins roll out of their enormous bed and head to their offices. His is about six steps across the hallway. Hers is just off the large kitchen.

“We shared an office when Barry first started working at home, but that only lasted half a day,” Denise says with a laugh.

Barry buys and sells airplane parts — a passion reflected in the decorations in his upstairs office: a model of Air Force One, pictures of planes and maps of overseas destinations where his aviation jobs have taken him during the years.

Denise works as a trainer for PartyLite. The glow and scents of the strategically placed PartyLite candles greet visitors who enter the early 1970s home.

The Martins have lived in the house for 22 of their 35 years of marriage. The high school sweethearts raised two children in the home’s five bedrooms — two of those rooms are now offices, and one serves as a walk-in closet with a two-person sauna.

“When we bought the house, the decor was so old, that if we’d kept it that way, it would almost be back in style again,” Denise says. “There was actually deep shag green carpet. Up until eight years ago, almost every wall was white. We were really afraid of dark walls, but now we’re like: ‘Bring it on.’”
