The Business Women’s Network, or BWN, has come a long way since it was founded in 1979 by Elizabeth Bobo and the late Ruth Keaton.
“It started off just as the Women’s Network, not a business women’s network,” said Bobo, who was on the County Council with Keaton at the time and is now a state delegate.
The goal then was to create a structured organization, larger and more formal than a book club, for women to get together on a regular basis. “Some were business women, and some were not. Some were artists and some were stay-at-home moms,” Bobo said.
