Passion Parties Book Review

thestar.com:

Passion Parties BookThe Passion Parties Guide to Great Sex by Pat Davis (Broadway Books, $24.95, 296 pages). This book is part self-help book, part product brochure. Davis, who is in her 60s, is president of Passion Parties, Inc., a company that sells sex-related products the way Tupperware sells containers.

It is wonderful seeing an older woman besides Sue Johanson being so open about sex. And she is really open – everything is covered here, from kissing to masturbation to anal sex. But that “everything” is one of the downsides to the book. There is too much focus on beginner stuff for those who are comfortable with sex but want to spice up their relationships, and too much that’s perhaps hard-core if you’re really shy about sex.

The other downside is the constant references to the products the company offers. Although they do sound intriguing (I have been thinking about finding one of their parties – they operate in Canada and the U.S.), I’m not a fan of product placement.

On the plus side, I really like that this book seems to put my pleasure first and foremost. Sewell says most books on sex cater to men, but Davis’s work is about empowering women. She’s been married to the same man for more than 40 years and is a big believer in letting a woman’s “Passion Diva” come out and play. She wants me to involve all of my senses, throughout the day, in order to become a more sensual person.

She stresses how important it is for me to take even just five minutes a day all to myself. She’s a big believer in my being adventurous and challenging my comfort level. “Don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it” sums up her approach.

Davis has good tips for adding romance, spice or excitement to my love life. She also provides a lot of techniques for those who may not be familiar with certain moves, positions or acts. Thanks to her, I think my Passion Diva may be ready to put on a show.
