In training, Mr. Rivera runs six miles a day, spends two to three hours in the gym working on his boxing skills and ends his day with a torturous 1-1/2 hour exercise program that includes 500 sit-ups.

Since he lost his super welterweight title in January, Mr. Rivera has been awaiting a deal to fight again, so his eating habits these days are not closely regimented. “It’s got to be a fight that means something,� he said.
