get motivated seminarGet Motivated, promoted for weeks by ads featuring Zig Ziglar, Steve Forbes, George Foreman and others, took over the Toyota Center and a good part of the George R. Brown Convention Center.

The event sold out quickly, attracting more than 20,000.

“People are still looking for advice with their personal life, with relationships, their careers, on how to improve sales,” said John LaRosa, president of Marketdata Enterprises, who tracks the self-help industry. “It’s such a broad market, and it’s continuing to grow.”

He estimates that the industry, which includes seminars, books, CDs, personal coaching and other services, was $9.6 billion in 2006 compared to $5.7 billion in 2000.

Contributing to that growth is Mary Davis, a saleswoman for Arbonne International, who said she faces rejection daily.

She came to the event looking for inspiration.
