Amway Global partnered with YMCA of America to launch a new initiative—Inspire Wellness—that includes a Web site launch, free wellness events, health assessments and more. The company also released results of a national survey of more than 15,000 American adults about health and wellness. Among the top-line results:
- 93 percent of Americans are trying to make healthy choices, though 47 percent struggle to do so.
- The greatest barriers to living a healthier lifestyle: lack of time (39 percent) and the rising cost of a balanced diet (21 percent).
- Getting enough exercise, getting enough sleep and maintaining a well-balanced diet were the top three wellness challenges.
- 42 percent of Americans report the economy is having a negative impact on their wellness
- Women’s health decisions are more affected by the economy than men’s (44 percent vs. 40 percent, respectively).
- Two in five Americans (40 percent) have a “very” or “somewhat” high stress level.
Steve Lieberman, managing director, Amway Global, noted: “Wellness isn’t just about the scale, it’s about a holistic approach—from getting adequate sleep and exercise to reducing stress and eating a balanced diet.”
