As more and more people lose their jobs, they are scrambling to reinvent themselves, or at least find a way to get some income.
Many Houstonians are trying direct sales of beauty products, not just to make ends meet, but for some, to start a new career.
Milicent Banks is having the time of her life. She’s taking her part time hobby as a beauty consultant for Mary Kay and turning it into a full time career after being laid off from her previous job in the health care industry.
“There are just certain things that you just can’t make a profit right now, so direct sales, depending on what it is, is the way to go,” she said.
Reports show that from 1987 to 2007, direct selling in the U.S. grew 4.5 percent on average, and the recession doesn’t seem to be hurting. And with people being laid off, some have turned to direct sales jobs to make ends meet.

I completely agree, with the economy as it is right now you worry about IF/WHEN you will lose your job. I know a friend of mine worked for a major corporation 18 years, his specialty is IT, never would have imagined that his job was in danger, until it was.
It is times like this that taking on something that you ‘yourself’ are in control of (i.e. direct sales) will start to become more and more mainstream. The stereotype of selling Avon was like the stay at home moms, but I think those times are gone.
Direct Sales, I believe it is our future.
